Lake Powell Boat Ramp Guide 2026

Lake Powell has 12 public boat ramps spanning Arizona and Utah. At the current elevation of 3,525.76 ft, 1 ramp is fully operational, 2 are at risk of closure, 2 have limited access, and 7 are currently closed due to insufficient water depth.

Each ramp has specific open/close thresholds based on its design and underwater terrain. The "cushion" value shows how many feet of rise or fall would be needed before the ramp's status changes, helping you plan ahead.

    Can I Launch My Boat?

    Standard motorized boats

At today's level, motorized launching is possible at: Stateline (Auxiliary), Antelope Point Marina Valet, Lone Rock Beach, Bullfrog North, Warm Creek. Size limits and conditions vary — check each ramp's card above.

    2026 Ramp Updates

As Lake Powell continues its gradual recovery, the National Park Service monitors ramp conditions closely. Bullfrog North is currently at risk — if the lake drops below 3,525 ft, this ramp will close. Meanwhile, the three Hite-area ramps remain closed and would require the lake to rise above 3,570–3,600 ft to reopen.

The NPS has invested in extending low-water ramps at Wahweap and Bullfrog to improve access during periods of lower water. These improvements have helped keep these critical ramps operational through the drought.

    Boat Ramp FAQ

Which Lake Powell boat ramps are open right now?

1 of 12 launch ramps is fully open at the present elevation, and motorized launching is possible (with limits) at Stateline (Auxiliary), Antelope Point Marina Valet, Lone Rock Beach, Bullfrog North, Warm Creek. Status is computed from each ramp's open/close thresholds versus today's reading.

What determines if a boat ramp is open or closed?

Each ramp has an engineered open/close threshold based on the underwater terrain. When the lake drops below the close threshold, the ramp becomes inaccessible. The NPS makes the final call.

    Is Wahweap boat ramp open?

Wahweap Main is currently closed for motorized launching: the lake (3,525.76 ft) is 19.24 ft below its 3,545 ft NPS minimum. The extended Stateline auxiliary ramp nearby is open and is the primary Wahweap-area launch.

    Is Bullfrog boat ramp open?

Bullfrog Main is currently closed; it reopens to all vessels when the lake is above 3,578 ft. The secondary Bullfrog North ramp is at risk — check its card above before relying on it.

    Can I launch at Hite?

No. Hite has been closed since 2021 and requires the lake to reach 3,660 ft to reopen.

Is Lone Rock Beach open for launching?

Lone Rock Beach is an informal, unimproved beach launch — use it at your own risk. There's usually enough water across a wide range of levels, but it's not a maintained ramp. 4WD is recommended for beach launching, and it's a popular free camping area.

Do I need a permit to launch at Lake Powell?

Yes. A Glen Canyon National Recreation Area entrance fee is required ($30/vehicle for 7 days or $55 annual pass). Vessels also need a boat permit.

Where can I launch a kayak or paddleboard?

Kayaks and paddleboards can launch from any open ramp plus informal beach access points. No motorized launch permit is needed for non-motorized craft.
